Mint Julep
No matter if you're in the American South or in the middle of Finnish rye fields. One Mint Julep can be the cause of it all.
4 cl Kyrö Malt rye whisky
2 cl simple syrup
A handful of fresh mint leaves
Crushed Ice
Place the mint leaves in one hand and gently smack them with your other hand to release the aromatics. Then place the mint, sugar syrup, and rye whisky in a tall glass. Fill with crushed ice and stir well. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint and you will be sure to enjoy.
Fancy hats and horses
The state of Kentucky is best known for horse farms and whisky distilleries. Each year these two are combined in a special way at the Kentucky Derby where the boldest race-goers celebrate the event with over-the-top Derby hats.
The Mint Julep has been the official cocktail of the event since 1939. About 120 000 Mint Julep cocktails are prepared during the two-day horse race event every year. Traditionally Mint Juleps are served in silver or pewter cups which allows frost to form outside the cup. At home, plain glass works just fine paired with or without a crazy hat.
