Manhattan Cocktail recipe
It's not all about New York state of mind. You can simply just make a Manhattan at home.
4 cl rye whisky
2 cl rosso vermouth
3-4 dashes angostura bitters
Lots of ice
Chill a coupe or a martini glass (add ice and a dash of water or put in a freezer). Fill a mixing glass with ice. Pour rye whisky, vermouth, and bitters in. Stir, stir and stir a little more. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a maraschino cherry.
When one has a perfect bar set-up at home they shall make Manhattans!
Traditional views insist Manhattan to be made with American rye whisky. At Kyrö we've always taken the path unknown. So we dare you to try Finnish rye when creating one of the six basic drinks listed in David A. Embury's 1948 classic The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks.
Political views insist Manhattan was invented for a party hosted by Lady Randolph Churchill, the mother of Winston Churchill. But that story is indeed false. Truth is Lady Randolph Churchill was pregnant and living in England by the time this event took place in New York.
Put the history and political views on hold for a second, though. There's another reason Manhattan is so appealing even after all these years and numerous innovative cocktails being created. It's simply delish and something every respectable bar will have on their cocktail menu. Why wouldn't you try making it at home, too?
